Iced Latte Candle Recipe – The Coolest DIY for Coffee Lovers

When it comes to candle crafting, sometimes it’s fun to shake things up - especially when it looks like something you’d order at your favourite café. Our Iced Latte Candle is not only a head-turner for your shop or market table, it’s also a unique gift idea for the coffee lover in your life. With realistic “ice cubes,” creamy latte swirls, and a cozy café-inspired scent, it’s the perfect project for when you’re ready to take your candle-making game to the next level.

This project is definitely a two-day adventure, so give yourself some time to enjoy the process. You’ll be working with both soy wax and medium-density gel wax—yes, gel wax! - which is what gives the realistic look of ice in the final candle. It’s an impressive detail that customers love and sets your product apart.

We also used one of our newest additions to the Fizz Fairy lineup - liquid candle colourant—to give this latte its rich, caramel hue. It’s incredibly easy to work with, whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned maker. Just a few drops go a long way, and because it blends seamlessly into both soy and gel wax, it helps you achieve smooth, even colour without the fuss. It’s quickly become one of our favourite go-to tools for customizing candles with precision and creativity.

A Note About Gel Wax

To make the “ice,” we use medium-density gel wax, which holds its shape better when soy wax is poured around it. Gel wax has a high melting point of around 99°C and cannot be melted in a traditional double boiler. It must be heated directly on the stovetop in a pan, on low heat, with constant supervision. We repeat: do not step away—even for a minute. If you need to walk away, turn the burner off first. Gel wax can begin to smoke if overheated, which we definitely don’t want in our iced lattes!

Iced Latte Candle Recipe

Yield:

  • 4 x 10 oz jars (I thrifted mine!)

Ingredients:

Equipment:

  •  Stove/Cooktop
  • Pot for melting gel wax
  • Large spoon for stirring
  • Silicone rectangle or loaf mold (for ice cubes)
  • Cutting board & knife
  • Double boiler or wax melting container
  • 2 measuring/pouring cups
  • Thermometer
  • Scale
  • Gloves
  • 4 × 10oz candle jars
  • 4 × 6” pre-tabbed Premier Candle Wicks (Fizz Fairy)
  • 4 × Candle caution labels
  • 4 × Wick centering sticks (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Heat gun (optional, for finishing touches)

Instructions:

Step 1: Make the Gel Wax “Ice Cubes”

  1. Cut & Weigh Gel Wax: Cut the gel wax into small, manageable chunks and place into a pot.

  2. Melt Gel Wax: Heat over low heat directly on your cooktop, stirring constantly. Never leave unattended!

  3. Pour Into Mold: Once fully melted, pour into your silicone loaf or rectangle mold.

  4. Cool Completely: Let sit for several hours, or overnight, until solid.

  5. Cut Ice Cubes: Remove from mold and cut into realistic “ice cube” shapes. Set aside.

Step 2: Create the Iced Latte Candle

  1. Weigh & Melt Soy Wax: Measure out your 464 Soy Wax and begin melting it in a double boiler or wax melting pot.

  2. Prep Jars: While the wax melts, prep your jars with caution stickers, centered wicks, and optional wick centering sticks.

  3. Add Gel Wax Ice Cubes: Place your gel ice cubes into each jar. Consider their placement along the glass—they’ll be visible in the final candle.

  4. Divide Wax: Once fully melted, pour out half of the wax into a measuring cup. This portion will remain white. Let it cool to about 135°F (57°C).

  5. Prepare the Latte Wax: In the second measuring cup, pour the remaining melted wax. Allow to cool to 135°F (57°C), then add: 1 oz White Caramel Cold Brew Fragrance Oil, and ¼–½ tsp Latte Candle Colourant

  6. Stir & Check Colour: Stir gently for ~5 minutes. To test colour, dip a spoon into the wax and let it cool to see the final shade.

  7. Cool to Pour Temps: Allow both waxes to cool further to around 125°F (52°C) before pouring.

  8. Layer the Candle: Pour the white wax first, filling the jars about ⅔ full. Then immediately pour the latte-coloured wax on top.

  9. Set Overnight: Let candles sit undisturbed at room temperature overnight.

  10. Finish: The next day, trim your wicks, apply labels, and admire your masterpiece. If frosting appears on the sides, you can gently smooth it with a heat gun—but honestly, the frosted look just adds to the iced effect!
