Lavender Pillow Mist Recipe

Difficulty: ★

Drift into Dreamland with this Easy Lavender Pillow Mist

There’s nothing quite like the soothing scent of lavender to help you unwind after a long day. Our Lavender Pillow Mist is the perfect way to create a calming atmosphere before bedtime, whether spritzed onto your pillow, linens, or even into the air as a room spray. Best of all, it’s incredibly easy to make perfect for beginners looking to craft their own luxurious sleep aid!

At the heart of this recipe is Fizz Fairy's Lavender Essential Oil, known for its relaxing properties that promote restfulness and reduce stress. This powerhouse ingredient is blended with lavender floral water, which enhances the mist with a light, fresh aroma. To ensure the essential oil properly disperses, we use Polysorbate 20, a gentle emulsifier that helps the oil mix seamlessly with water-based ingredients. A small amount of isopropyl alcohol is included to help carry the mist through the air and enable it to dry quickly on fabrics, and Optiphen acts as a preservative, keeping your spray fresh and free from unwanted bacteria.

This lavender pillow mist is a must-have for any bedtime routine - simple to make, beautifully fragrant, and the perfect way to set the stage for a restful night’s sleep. Let’s get started!

Lavender Pillow Mist Recipe

Yield:

  • 12 x 3.3 fl oz bottles + 8 oz for samples; or
  • 12 x 4 fl oz bottles

Ingredients:

  • 34oz Lavender Floral Water
  • 18.4oz Isopropyl Alcohol
  • 4.2oz Polysorbate 20
  • 2.0oz Lavender Essential Oil
  • 12mL Optiphen

Equipment:

Instructions:

 1. Start by mixing the Polysorbate 20 with the lavender essential oil, ensuring they are thoroughly blended. If the mixture appears milky white, add a few more drops of Polysorbate 20 until it becomes mostly clear (a slight cloudiness is fine) before proceeding with the next ingredients.

2. Next, add the lavender floral water to a large mixing bowl that can accommodate all the ingredients. Once the Polysorbate and fragrance oil mixture is clear, add it to the bowl of the lavender floral water. Gently stir or whisk to incorporate all of the ingredients.

3. Add the isopropyl alcohol to the bowl.

4. Add the optiphen preservative to the bowl and gently stir or whisk once again to incorporate.

5. Transfer the mix to a measuring cup you can pour from. Using a funnel, carefully pour the mixture into your bottles. In these photos, I'm using a frosted glass bottle with a brushed gold spray cap, but you can also use plastic or aluminum bottles with this recipe.

I chose to fill 12 x 3.3 fl oz bottles and had ~8oz remaining for samples. My sample bottles hold only 10mL each, but you could create samples of any size with the remaining pillow mist. Alternatively, the recipe yields 12 x 4 fl oz bottles, or 24 x 2 fl oz bottles, if you'd like to make or sell smaller sizes. You can also easily half, double or triple this recipe to make less or more.

While the Polysorbate 20 helps bind the lavender floral water and essential oil, be sure to shake the bottle well before each use for best results. Keep in mind that this formula includes a preservative. Skipping the preservative increases the risk of mold and bacteria growth over time.

However you choose to recreate this recipe is up to you - there are so many incredible choices to make when it comes to these, especially with Fizz Fairy's range of essential oils and essential oil blends!
